A press release, “The Army Makes Best Efforts to Rescue People from the Earthquake in Hualien,” was issued. (February 7th, 2018, 10:10)

Regarding the earthquake in Hualien, Ministry of National Defense claimed today (7th) that the Emergency Operations Center had been established at midnight to make all-out efforts to operate the rescue mission and expect to let civilians return to their normal lives quickly.

Ministry of National Defense pointed out that President Tsai went to Hualien this morning to hear the rescue briefing and stated that the immediate launch of rescue operated by the Army and the Administrative Authority was proactive and effective, and should be highly praised. In addition, President Tsai also expected the spirit of “not giving up any opportunity to assist people and save life” should be continuously maintained for further rescue.

Ministry of National Defense also claimed that the focus of rescue today was on Yunmen Tsuiti Building and Marshal Hotel. Hua-tung Defense Command had united military force and rescue equipment from different units with 595 military officers and 23 life detectors to operate the rescue mission. Also, the Army had adjusted the rescue equipment from every unit to support Hua-tung Defense Command. Taitung Area Command firstly provided 2 mounted loaders to support the operation in this morning, and Air Force also sent S-70C helicopter and RF-5 fighter to have the aerial photography and we hope to get the photos soon so as to help plan and operate further rescue.

Ministry of National Defense also pointed out that 15 Emergency Medical Services (40 medical officers and 15 ambulances) had been sent to provide emergency medical treatment for the civilians, rescue military officers and workers in the areas of Yunmen Tsuiti Building and Marshal Hotel.

Ministry of National Defense emphasized that the Army will make great efforts to operate the rescue mission to assist people and cooperate with fire brigade, police station, and rescue department closely without giving up any opportunity to rescue and save life.
